St. Mary's Church, Wymeswold

Exterior of St. Mary's

the exterior showing porch As a result of prejudice against Catholics and the bigotry of the church, Pugin was unable to, or at least seldom asked to do work on Anglican churches. However here we have a rare example of art and adventure rising above elderly men in cassocks.

The photograph on the left has a small turret projecting from the porch roof this is in fact a chimney for the fireplace installed by Pugin in the porch! As we know Pugin said one could not pray if one was cold.

Stained Glass

The church was given a new roof, new stained glass and new pews. The chancel was renovated. Wailes and Hardman both made glass for the windows.
