Gargoyles and Carvings

This is a pictorial page with a small amount of text.

These gargoyles and carvings were designed by Pugin. Many of his buildings both religious and secular were decorated by gargoyles inside and out.

These stone carvings have a different colour from the yellow sandstone in Kent. They have a pink hue to them and are from north Staffordshire.

If you look closely you can see a mouse sitting in the leaves of the middle carving. Small animals often appear in the carvings. The reason these carvings have pipes in their mouths is to allow the rain water to drain away.
